Islamabad Schools and Colleges Closed Amid PTI Rally: Safety Measures Enforced in the Capital

Islamabad, August 22, 2024 – Islamabad’s district administration has declared a holiday. This is a decisive move to keep law and order. This holiday applies to all public and private schools and colleges. This action follows the sealing of the Red Zone in response to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled for today. The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad made the decision. It aims to prevent any disruption to daily life in the city. This is amidst the ongoing political tension.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the closure through an official statement on X (formerly Twitter). The volatile situation in Islamabad led to this precautionary measure, with authorities emphasizing the importance of public safety.

Red Zone Sealed and Protests Restricted

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a high-level meeting, stressed that no one would be allowed access to the Red Zone. This restriction is for protests. He acknowledged the right to show. He emphasized that such activities must be conducted in designated areas. This will help avoid public inconvenience. Naqvi also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt peace.

PTI Rally Postponed Amid Security Concerns

Amidst these developments, PTI has postponed its planned power show in Tarnol. The rally, initially set for today, was called off. The Islamabad administration revoked the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the public gathering. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced the decision, stating that the party founder, Imran Khan, directed the postponement.

But, the Deputy Commissioner has permitted PTI to hold a rally in Islamabad on September 8. The NOC has already been issued.
