Pakistan’s First Autism School to be Built in Lahore: A New Dawn for Autism Care
In a groundbreaking initiative, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for Pakistan’s first autism school in Lahore on Friday, marking a historic moment for autism care and education in the country. The school is designed to provide specialized education and support services to children with autism, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive education and autism awareness.
A Milestone for Autism Education in Pakistan
This autism school, set to be completed within a year, is part of an ambitious plan to establish a facility that meets international standards of care for autistic children. During the foundation stone ceremony, Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the urgency of hiring autism experts to guide the project. These professionals will ensure that the school’s design and curriculum are tailored to the unique needs of autistic children, helping them thrive academically and socially.
“Children with autism deserve compassion, understanding, and a specialized environment that fosters their growth and development,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the importance of creating an inclusive space for these children.

Cutting-Edge Facilities and Expert-Led Design
The school will feature state-of-the-art facilities to support the diverse needs of children with autism. The ground floor will house 11 junior classrooms, 10 senior classrooms, 10 speech session cubicles, a therapy room, and a pre-vocational training area. There will also be rooms dedicated to daily living activities, a computer lab, and more.
On the first floor, students will benefit from a multi-purpose hall, a committee room, a library, and a resource center. The school’s design also allows for future expansion, with the potential for two additional floors to accommodate more students and services.

Addressing the Growing Need for Autism Support
The establishment of this school comes at a time when autism awareness and support services are still developing in Pakistan.
